Since 1993 the Australian University Games has grown to be Australia’s largest annual multi sport event. The Games is renowned for providing a friendly but competitive environment for Australian university athletes. The Games are recognised as a perfect opportunity to provide university athletes, many of whom are of Olympic standard, to compete against each other in a national multi sport event. The Games has built up a reputation as a not to be missed, event attracting over 6,000 participants each year.
This year the Australian University Games will be held on the Gold Coast from 29 September to 4 October. Each year the Games sporting schedule is made up of more than 28 individual and team sport which include: athletics, australian rules football, badminton, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, cycling, fencing, football, futsal, golf, handball, hockey, judo, kendo, lawn bowls, netball, rugby union 7’s, sailing, softball, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, tenpin bowling, touch, twenty20 cricket, ultimate, volleyball and water polo. A number of sporting competitions are classified as qualification sports. The top teams qualify from the previous Australian University Games and the remainder will qualify via the Regional University Games, held in July.
Off the sporting field, an action-packed, week-long social program is conducted to complement the sporting activities and enhance the event experience for participants.
