Theme Parks Join Forces For Gold Coast Tourism

Theme park campaignFollowing a move in the US which saw Universal join forces with its “enemy” Disney for the greater good, Dreamworld, White Water World, Sea World, Wet ‘n’ Wild and Movie World have come together for the first time to sell the Gold Coast as the “theme park capital of Australia”.

Two of the Gold Coast’s fiercest rivals have teamed up, together with the Queensland Government, for a $15 million campaign. Premier Campbell Newman said “Only on the Gold Coast is there such a range of theme parks all with a stone’s throw of each other, making it the one-stop shop for any family holiday”.

The ambitious plan was hatched by Village Roadshow CEO after a visit to another of the world’s premier theme park destinations – Orlando, Florida. He saw how their parks and the state government over there worked together to promote the region and he went “bingo”.

The launch was at Movie World on Tuesday afternoon and the aim is to sell the Gold Coast to New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart using the Glitter Strip’s point of difference – the theme parks that put it on the map in the 1980s and the sunshine that gives the state its golden sheen.

The campaign sees Sea World’s dolphins feature side-by-side with Dreamworld’s tigers, and Movie World’s stunt driving team next to the Tower of Terror.

The campaign will hit key tourism markets from October 27 in Australia and New Zealand – next stop the world and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Gold Coast, which is currently in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
